Aconteceu na noite deste domingo mais uma edição do VMA 2011, a grande festa do videoclipe mundial. Os destaques ficaram por conta do show de Lady Gaga, da homenagem a Britney Spears e da performance surpresa de Jay-Z e Kanye West, que cantaram juntos. Imagens inéditas de Amy Winehouse, que morreu em julho, emocionaram o público.
Katy Perry foi a maior vencedora da noite, com três troféus, inclusive o prêmio de Clipe do Ano. A britânica Adele ganhou quatro prêmios - Fotografia, Direção, Edição e Direção de Arte - mas não subiu ao palco para agradecimentos porque todos os seus prêmios foram 'técnicos' e são anunciados antes do show oficial de domingo.

A categoria mais importante do Video Music Awards é de Clipe do Ano. Nesta, apenas o rapper Eminem venceu mais de uma vez, levado o astronauta de prata em 2000 por 'The Real Slim Shady' e em 2002 por 'Without Me'.
